Six lies about drinking
1. Drinking to moderation can’t do no harm.
Many believe that drinking to moderation, even if often, does not cause addiction or harm. It’s true that drinking in moderation does less harm that drinking excessively or getting drunk. Nonetheless, drinking moderately, but often, can still cause dependence on alcohol. If you feel a strong urge for a drink on certain occasions, this may be happening to you.
2. Alcohol carries nutritional benefits.
Alcohol carries high calories but has low nutritional values as it doesn’t contain many of the essential trace elements, vitamins, amino acids or fatty acids.
3. Alcohol helps sexual functions.
Alcohol enhances sexual arousal. However, frequent consumption lowers the ability to maintain erection and sexual intercourse.
4. Alcohol keeps you warm in winter or cold environment.
Alcohol causes your blood vessels to dilate and makes you feel warm. However, this in turn causes heat loss and drops the body temperature. The intoxicated person is liable to suffer consequence of prolonged exposure to cold.
5. Alcohol is medicine.
Even the best alcohol is inferior to sensibly used medications and makes a bad substitute. Many drink to alleviate minor symptoms but end up suffering consequences of alcoholism.
6. Drinking drowns your blues.
Alcohol lifts your mood for minutes or even hours. However, when its effect wears off, most people who drink to enhance their mood end up feeling worse than before. Drink to drown your blues only drowns you.

I have had one friend die of alcohol addictin aged 32, and seen two other friends suffer serious health problems as a direct result of regular drinking. We outlaw drugs but do nothing about alcohol. It's a strange world.
Very interesting, I agree with you; but what do you think about the therapeutic uses of wine?. In France it has been used for centuries to alleviate problems such as anaemia and high blood pressure. It is also use in cataplasms to reduce swelling. Would drinking grape juicy have the same therapeutic effects as wine?

I think the alcohol is good for insomnia too, because when I drink 1 or 2 cups of rum I feel asleep and I can sleep very well.
